Phalcha Coffee Opens in Germantown, Offering Unique Flavors and a Relaxing Atmosphere

by Alice

Phalcha Coffee, a new addition to the Germantown neighborhood, has opened its doors at 1001 Mary St. With a vibrant ambiance featuring a neon sign that reads “good vibes only,” chill background music, and hanging plants, this coffee shop stands out for its unique menu offerings.

Guests can enjoy colorful beverages made with ube, a purple yam, and a strawberry-rose latte enhanced with Nutella. The menu also includes popular items such as avocado toast, tuna toast, and prosciutto sandwiches. For those seeking something sweet, Phalcha Coffee serves waffles and freshly scooped ice cream alongside classic coffees and teas.

The establishment is the brainchild of four co-owners: sisters Priya Ghale and Shristi Ghale, along with husband-and-wife duo Bishal Suwal and Kriti Malla. All originally from Nepal, the Louisville residents bonded over their shared heritage and the desire to bring more Nepali cuisine and culture to the area.

“We’re all from Nepal, so we got together and decided to do something,” Priya Ghale told the Courier Journal. “You don’t see a lot of Nepali restaurants or coffee shops here.”

While managing their day jobs—an optician, respiratory therapist, registered nurse, and engineer at Humana—the owners worked diligently to transform the Mary Street space into what is now Phalcha Coffee. The name, which means “resting place” in Nepali, reflects their goal of creating a comfortable environment for customers to relax and unwind.

“This is a place to come in and chill and relieve stress,” Ghale stated.

Since securing their location in August 2023, the team has dedicated significant effort to build a welcoming atmosphere. Ghale noted the strong community support they have received, which has been evident in their growing social media presence. Phalcha Coffee has quickly garnered a following, thanks in part to aesthetically pleasing photos of their vibrant drinks.

“That was our goal,” Ghale explained. “We wanted to make it good for the eyes and the taste.”

Phalcha Coffee is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
