NEW YORK — A New Jersey woman has filed a lawsuit against JetBlue Airways, alleging that the airline served her an “unreasonably cold” ice cream sandwich during an international flight, causing a severe dental injury. The suit, filed last week in New York Eastern District Court, seeks financial compensation from the airline for damages and legal expenses, as reported by The Independent.
The plaintiff, Karla Quinonez, claims that she sustained an “oral injury” upon biting into a Nightingale-brand strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich provided during her flight. According to the lawsuit, Quinonez argues the treat was served at a temperature “below what is reasonable or safe for consumption.” Additionally, she asserts that JetBlue crew members failed to caution her about the “dangerously cold” and solid state of the dessert before offering it to passengers, according to People magazine.
The incident reportedly occurred on an August 20 flight from New York to Paris. The lawsuit details that Quinonez sustained a root fracture in her upper left lateral incisor from the bite, resulting in what she describes as “severe and permanent bodily injuries.” In France, the damaged tooth required an emergency extraction, leading to significant medical expenses, as noted by The Independent.
The claim follows a similar case reported by People, in which another JetBlue passenger is suing the airline after a “dangerously hot” cup of tea spilled on her during a May flight, allegedly causing severe burns. Both lawsuits underscore ongoing concerns about the safety and quality of in-flight food and beverage service.
