MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Greek Fest is back, and local entrepreneur Cammie Wayne, owner of Cammie’s Old Dutch Ice Cream Shop, stopped by WKRG News 5 to showcase her unique baklava ice cream, a standout treat at the festival.
During her appearance on the Red Couch with hosts Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales, Wayne shared her excitement for the event and detailed the making of her special ice cream. “Baklava is a delicious Greek dessert made up of layers of crispy phyllo dough, honey, and nuts,” she explained, referencing a popular recipe from Allrecipes.
Wayne offered samples of her baklava ice cream for the hosts to taste, explaining her innovative preparation method. “Baklava is very heavy because it has the honey and syrup, so you kind of drain that off,” Wayne said. She then described how she incorporates the syrup into the ice cream machine, blending it with the ice cream while folding in additional baklava as it comes out.
The baklava ice cream will be available on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Greek Fest, which is being held at ASMS West Presbyterian Church. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a delicious twist on a classic Greek dessert!
