Taylor Chip Expands with New Ice Cream Shop in York, PA

by Alice

YORK, Pa. — Taylor Chip, a central Pennsylvania dessert company renowned for its oversized, indulgent cookies, is embarking on a new venture.

The company, founded by Sara and Doug Taylor, has secured a $3.5 million state grant to enhance its manufacturing capabilities, including the addition of ice cream production. Over the weekend, they opened a new location in York, showcasing 15 unique flavors of ice cream, such as PB&J, S’mores, Tart Berry Crumble, and Sweet Potato Casserole. The shop also features a selection of coffee and tea.

Sara Taylor, the company’s COO and co-founder, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “Just to have the support from locals is everything to us,” she said.

Each ice cream flavor is blended with chunks of Taylor Chip cookies, with all ingredients prepared in-house to avoid additives like high fructose corn syrup or seed oils.

Doug Taylor, the CEO and co-founder, emphasized the rigor of dairy manufacturing, stating, “Dairy manufacturing is more stringent than pharmaceutical manufacturing. It has taken us five years to reach this point because we wanted to create everything from scratch, rather than relying on someone else’s base.”

The journey to open the creamery involved refining their ice cream base and securing a manufacturer during the construction of their facility.

Located at 3013 E. Market St., the York store operates daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except Sundays. The Taylors plan to further expand their menu by creating new sweet treat combinations with their cookies and ice cream.
