Demolition Begins on Iconic Haley’s Ice Cream Building in Newburyport

NEWBURYPORT — After more than a month of preparatory work, the demolition of the beloved Haley’s Ice Cream building off Route 1 officially began Thursday morning. A yellow excavator was seen tearing down the landmark structure, signaling the start of its removal.

The site, owned by Louis Minicucci Jr. of MINCO Development Corp., is slated for redevelopment into a housing complex. The new project is expected to mirror the style of the nearby Boston Way apartment buildings, further reshaping the area’s landscape.
