Weckerly’s Ice Cream Plans to Open Third Location in Rittenhouse Square

by Alice

Weckerly’s Ice Cream is poised to expand its presence in Philadelphia with plans for a third location in the city’s Rittenhouse Square neighborhood, following successful establishments in Fishtown and King of Prussia.

Owner Cristina Torres views the move to Rittenhouse as a “natural next step,” strategically positioning the ice cream shop between its current locations. Torres, who has deep ties to the city, having lived in Center City and worked in Graduate Hospital, expressed a personal connection to the area.

“Center City is almost like putting on your big girl pants. It’s the next level, the next step,” Torres told the Philadelphia Business Journal. “I just want to bring more of Weckerly’s to more people in Philly.”

Although Weckerly’s has received approval for signage at a commercial space located at 1600 Spruce Street, the finalization of the location is still in progress.

Weckerly’s was founded in 2012 by Jen and Andy Satinsky, initially operating from the back of a West Philadelphia café. Four years later, the business moved into a repurposed textile plant in North Philadelphia before finding its permanent home in Fishtown. Torres acquired the ice cream shop when the Satinskys announced plans to close at the end of 2023.

The new Rittenhouse location will allow Weckerly’s to continue its growth and bring its beloved ice cream sandwiches to more Philadelphians.
