Ben & Jerry’s, the iconic ice cream brand known for its creative flavors and commitment to high-quality ingredients, is expanding its presence in the Sacramento area with a new franchised scoop shop in Historic Folsom.
Founded in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, Ben & Jerry’s has become one of America’s most beloved ice cream companies, offering a wide range of ice cream and non-dairy/vegan options. The brand’s pints, often with playful names like “Phish Food” and “Impretzively Fudged,” are available in over 35 countries worldwide. In addition to their pint offerings, Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops feature a variety of treats including waffle cones, sundaes, shakes, and smoothies. Last year, the company ranked as the leading ice cream brand in the U.S., with $951 million in sales, according to Statista.
The new shop in Folsom will be operated by local entrepreneurs Justin and Amy Pierce, who recently signed a franchise agreement with Ben & Jerry’s. The couple, who relocated from Napa to El Dorado Hills four years ago, saw an opportunity to bring the popular brand to a community in need of a local scoop shop.
“We wanted to start a business here and felt the area was lacking in ice cream options,” said Justin Pierce. “Teaming up with Ben & Jerry’s felt like a great fit for our goals and the community.”
The scoop shop will be located at 711 Sutter Street, in a 1,000-square-foot space in Folsom’s Historic District. The location was previously home to Season’s 916, a now-closed eatery. Renovations are expected to begin soon, with plans to open by April 2025.
Ben & Jerry’s will provide the Pierces with a store design that incorporates both indoor seating and a variety of flavor options, which customers can personalize with an array of toppings. The shop will also offer catering services for special events.
Currently, the nearest Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop is located at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, CA.
The Pierces are excited to bring Ben & Jerry’s distinctive ice cream offerings to Folsom, aiming to create a local hub for ice cream lovers and to contribute to the community’s vibrant food scene.
