HOUSTON — Blue Bell Creameries is facing growing scrutiny following a massive recall that has placed the century-old Texas ice cream maker under intense pressure. The company announced Tuesday that it is narrowing down the cause of a deadly listeria outbreak linked to its products.
The recall, issued on Monday, affected all of Blue Bell’s products nationwide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Tuesday that the number of confirmed illnesses tied to the company’s ice cream has risen to 10.
As Blue Bell continues its investigation into the source of the contamination, the company is working closely with health authorities to determine how the listeria bacteria made its way into its products, which have now been recalled from store shelves across the country.
The outbreak has prompted renewed concern over food safety, placing the company at the center of a growing public health crisis.
