Ballarat residents can now indulge in Timboon Fine Ice Cream’s beloved range of flavours, with the opening of a new store on Sturt Street.
The new outlet, located at 615 Sturt Street, offers the same 24 signature ice cream flavours as the original Timboon location, including a variety of sorbets, sundaes, milkshakes, and vegan and dairy-free options. For pet owners, there’s even a special treat for dogs—‘Scoopys’ ice cream.
Timboon Fine Ice Cream was founded in October 1999 by Tim Marwood and Caroline Simmons. The couple initially started crafting their ice cream from their farm near Timboon, a small town near the Great Ocean Road. Over the years, they built a loyal customer base, particularly in Ballarat, where they regularly visited with their vintage ice cream van at local events.
“We have a really strong connection with Ballarat,” Caroline Marwood says. “It felt like a natural progression to open a permanent store here, especially with the great location, north-facing with ample parking. We’re thrilled to be able to offer our ice cream to Ballarat residents on a more consistent basis.”
Tim, a third-generation dairy farmer, has a deep-rooted connection to the land. His family’s history in farming dates back to the 1940s, with his grandfather developing early irrigation methods and his father being one of the first to milk ‘a cow to the acre’ in the 1970s. Following the sale of the Marwood dairy farm, Tim and Caroline relocated their operations to Timboon in 2016.
The couple sources their fresh milk from nearby Doolan’s Farm, ensuring that their ice cream is made from the finest local ingredients. In addition to their Timboon store, where visitors can participate in hands-on workshops at the ‘Sundae School,’ the new Ballarat store will feature the same high-quality products, including popular flavours like ginger and whiskey cream, apple pie, and forest fruits.
Caroline’s personal favourites? “I can’t say no to maple and cinnamon ice cream in winter, and passionfruit meringue in summer,” she shares.
With its blend of tradition, high-quality ingredients, and a growing customer base, Timboon Fine Ice Cream is set to become a staple in the Ballarat community.
