by Alice

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is officially opening its newest store in Harvard Square this Thursday, with special promotions to mark the occasion. From noon to 2 p.m., customers can enjoy $1 scoops, and students will receive a 30% discount on their orders. Additionally, the first 100 customers will be gifted free Van Leeuwen tote bags.

The new shop, located at 1 Brattle Square in a 1,375-square-foot space, joins the growing roster of Van Leeuwen locations, including spots in Chestnut Hill and the Seaport District in Boston. This prime location in Harvard Square has previously been home to several vacant storefronts, including an EMS outdoors store, Chipotle, and Spyce.

In a nod to the area’s dessert scene, the Van Leeuwen store shares the block with the newly opened Chip City cookie shop.
