A beloved Brooklyn-based ice cream brand, OddFellows, has made its debut in Texas with the opening of its first location in The Woodlands. Known for its creative and unconventional flavors, OddFellows has captured the attention of ice cream lovers in New York City and beyond, and now, it’s bringing its unique offerings to the Lone Star State.
Founded in 2013, OddFellows was born out of a craving for savory ice cream. Franchise co-founder Mohan Kumar set out to satisfy his wife, Holiday’s, pregnancy-induced desire for a one-of-a-kind flavor. His search led him to collaborate with Sam Mason, a former pastry chef at the Michelin-starred wd~50 and James Beard Award nominee. Together, the trio created what has become a small-batch ice cream phenomenon.
The Woodlands location, owned by Valerie Golson Gipson and her husband Bryce, marks the brand’s first venture into Texas. Valerie Gipson saw an opportunity to introduce OddFellows’ whimsical approach to ice cream to the community. “We wanted to bring something unique and fun to The Woodlands,” she says.
While OddFellows is known for its wild, experimental flavors, it also offers a selection of tried-and-true classics. Signature offerings like Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Chunk, Cookies and Cream, and Coffee Crunch are always on the menu, alongside regular additions of new, creative options.
In addition to its ice cream, OddFellows provides a variety of vegan options, sorbets, and soft serve. One of the standout features of the brand is its commitment to quality ingredients, including the absence of artificial dyes in their products. “We’ve had a great response from the community, especially for our vegan ice creams,” says Valerie Gipson, noting that five vegan ice cream options are available, including coconut- and cashew-based varieties, as well as a sorbet.
For those seeking even more adventurous choices, OddFellows offers a selection of fun mix-ins and toppings, such as olive oil with sea salt, further elevating its reputation for bold, innovative ice cream creations.
