Southern Pines, NC – A new ice cream destination is coming to Southern Pines, as Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream announces the opening of its latest shop on January 9. The store, located at 1784 Old Morganton Road in the Lowes Shopping Center, will offer a variety of freshly made ice cream and other sweet treats for locals to enjoy.
Handel’s, known for crafting ice cream on-site, will feature 48 flavors available in cones, cups, and dishes. In addition to traditional ice cream offerings, the shop will serve sundaes, shakes, hurricanes, and Handle Pops, along with a special treat for dogs—pup cups.
The brand’s history dates back to 1945, when Alice Handel, in the heat of summer, began creating homemade ice cream in Youngstown, Ohio, using fresh fruit from her garden and personal recipes. This small start grew into a beloved neighborhood staple, and today Handel’s continues to uphold Alice’s commitment to quality, making each batch fresh daily using her original recipes.
