Hot Springs, Arkansas – William Serrano “Bill” McCrystyn, the beloved founder of Scoops Homemade Ice Cream in Hot Springs, passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, McCrystyn spent his early years in California before returning to Arkansas over two decades ago. It was then that he channeled his culinary talents into creating Scoops Homemade Ice Cream, a local favorite known for its unique flavors and heartfelt recipes.
In recent months, McCrystyn made the decision to sell his restaurant to a loyal customer, ensuring the legacy of his establishment would continue. The new owner is committed to preserving McCrystyn’s personal recipes and maintaining the Scoops brand. Additionally, under new ownership, the restaurant has expanded with two new locations in Little Rock, further solidifying Scoops’ presence in the state.
In honor of McCrystyn’s memory, the family has requested that memorials be made through tree plantings or donations to the Humane Society of Garland County.
