After half a century of serving up sweet treats to the East Islip community, Pam’s Ice Cream, a beloved local institution, is closing its doors. Owner Pam announced the emotional decision in a heartfelt Instagram post, marking the end of an era for the iconic shop at 195 Carleton Avenue.
“After over 50 years of serving ice cream, I have made the very difficult decision to retire,” Pam wrote. “We have loved being a part of the community and watching all your families grow. We will always cherish the memories and truly appreciate all your dedication to our family’s business.”
The shop’s final day of operation will be Tuesday, Jan. 14. To celebrate Pam’s retirement, the store is offering a buy-one-get-one-free sale on all carryout items while supplies last.
Pam’s Ice Cream has been a cornerstone of the community since its inception. Originally opened as a Carvel franchise in 1970, it became Pam’s Ice Cream in 1985. Over the decades, the shop earned a reputation for its exceptional customer service and year-round delicious treats. The business was recently listed for sale at $130,000, including inventory and equipment, and was pending a sale as of press time. The new owner will assume the lease and take over a location that has consistently received glowing reviews across platforms.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of nostalgia and gratitude from loyal customers. Many took to social media to share their cherished memories of the shop.
“We always make a stop at Pam’s when we visit home,” one customer commented. “So many childhood memories, celebrations, and laughs. Wishing you all the best on your next adventure!”
Another shared, “Thank you for all the delicious memories! My great-grandma used to take us to Pam’s on Tuesdays. At 40 years old, this is one of my sweetest memories with her.”
For generations, Pam’s Ice Cream has been a gathering place for families, creating lasting memories over ice cream cones, sundaes, and milkshakes. Pam expressed hope that the new owners will honor the shop’s legacy while bringing their own unique touch to the business. “We trust that the new owners will keep the tradition alive,” she wrote.
As the community prepares to bid farewell, locals are flocking to the shop for one last taste of nostalgia. Don’t miss the chance to grab a final scoop and wish Pam well as she closes this cherished chapter in East Islip’s history.
