If you purchased Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream between April 21, 2016, and August 14, 2024, you may be eligible for a share of an $8.85 million class action settlement, but time is running out to submit a claim. The deadline to file a claim is February 19, 2025.
The lawsuit, involving Unilever and its subsidiary Conopco, centers around the labeling of the ice cream, which plaintiffs claimed misled consumers into believing it contained vanilla flavor solely derived from the vanilla plant. However, the plaintiffs alleged that the ice cream actually included vanilla flavor from non-vanilla plant sources.
Although the companies have denied any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement to resolve the case.
Those who can provide proof of purchase are eligible to receive $1 per container of ice cream purchased. Claims can be made for any amount of ice cream bought during the eligible period, with no limit on the number of containers. For those without proof of purchase, payouts are capped at $8, with a $1 payout for each container purchased, up to eight containers. Individuals who have receipts for some purchases may combine those claims for a larger payout.
Please note that only one claim can be submitted per household. An influx of claims may result in reduced payouts based on the total claims filed.
To file a claim, visit the official settlement website. If there are any appeals, payouts may be delayed until those are resolved.
