Ninja has introduced a new ice cream maker, the Ninja Swirl, which builds on the success of its earlier Creami model by adding the ability to make soft serve. While the original Creami was limited to traditional scooped ice cream, the Swirl offers more versatility by allowing users to create both soft serve swirls and regular scooped ice cream. It can also prepare frozen yogurt and other variations, just like its predecessor.
The process for making ice cream in the Swirl is similar to the Creami: add ingredients to create the ice cream base, freeze it overnight, and then churn it in the machine. The key difference comes when making soft serve: users simply place the pint into the new nozzle and pull down on the handle to create a smooth swirl of ice cream.
The Ninja Swirl is priced at $349.99, making it a significant upgrade from the $199.99 Creami. While the price is steep, it faces limited competition in the soft serve market. The only comparable countertop model is Cuisinart’s $179.95 Mix It In, although other high-end machines can cost over $1,000.
The Swirl offers a broader range of options compared to its competitors, being able to make not just traditional ice cream but also frozen yogurt, custard, non-dairy ice cream, and even high-protein varieties using protein powder. All of these can be made either as soft serve or scoops.
Currently available for purchase on Ninja’s website, the Swirl is expected to be rolled out in stores this spring, with international availability later this year.
