Wilmington, NC – The Bend, a popular spot in Wilmington’s Ogden area, will soon expand with the addition of a new restaurant and soft-serve ice cream stand. Opening in the coming weeks, Middle Sound Grille is set to offer a diverse menu of gourmet bar food, further enhancing the appeal of the venue, which already features The Parlour House bar and a spacious, wooded beer garden.
The Bend, which opened in June 2024, has quickly become a local favorite. Owner Randy Tarr’s vision for the property, originally home to a house and two garages, is now taking its next step with the arrival of the new restaurant. Tarr, who partnered with longtime friend Chris Politis on the project, believes the addition of Middle Sound Grille will bring the space closer to its full potential.
Chris Politis, who grew up in the restaurant industry, has teamed up with his mother, LeeAnn Politis, to bring the new eatery to life. Before venturing into the restaurant business, Chris worked in local spots like Dock House Seafood & More and Castaways Raw Bar & Grill in Brunswick County. While he remains dedicated to his Saltwater Renovation Services Company, he and LeeAnn are now diving into the food scene together.
Middle Sound Grille will offer a wide array of gourmet bar food, including tacos, burgers, salads, wraps, and a strong emphasis on seafood. Specialties like brisket tacos and pork tenderloin sandwiches will join a rotating selection of creative weekly specials. The Politis family is working closely with a chef to ensure that the menu remains dynamic and appealing to customers.
The restaurant’s design promises a welcoming atmosphere, featuring a mahogany tongue-and-groove ceiling, tropical hardwood decking for patio dining, and picnic tables scattered throughout the beer garden. The family believes the space’s ambiance will play a big role in its success.
In keeping with a counter-service model, Middle Sound Grille will boast an expansive kitchen, a key element in its design. “Really, most of this building is the kitchen,” said Chris Politis, emphasizing its importance in delivering high-quality meals. He anticipates the restaurant will open its doors in mid-to-late March or early April.
As the latest addition to The Bend, Middle Sound Grille is poised to become a standout destination for both locals and visitors looking for a unique dining experience in Wilmington.
