AUSTIN, Texas (KTSM) — Gozo’s Ice Cream, an El Paso-based business committed to providing job opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), has officially opened a new location in the Texas State Capitol.
The ice cream shop is now available in the office of state Rep. Mary González, D-Clint, offering both a sweet treat and a mission-driven purpose to Texas lawmakers and visitors. This expansion underscores Gozo’s dedication to empowering adults with IDD, offering them a platform to develop skills, gain confidence, and engage with their communities.
Gozo’s Ice Cream is a project of the El Paso Community Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to create inclusive work environments for individuals with IDD, enabling them to thrive in both the workplace and broader society.
“At Gozo’s, we believe in the value and potential of adults with IDD, and that everyone deserves the opportunity to work, grow, and be part of something bigger,” said Adam Tirres, program officer at the El Paso Community Foundation. “We’re excited that Rep. González is helping us share our mission — and our delicious ice cream — with leaders and constituents from across Texas.”
In addition to bringing Gozo’s to Austin, González is working to raise awareness about the importance of businesses that support individuals with IDD, underscoring the vital role such mission-driven ventures play in fostering inclusivity.
The opening of the new location at the State Capitol is part of Gozo’s broader effort to create meaningful employment opportunities and to foster a more inclusive society for people with disabilities.
