A new artisanal ice cream called “Alleluia,” crafted by renowned Italian ice cream maker Vincenzo Squatrito of Ritrovo Orchidea in Olivieri, Messina, is set to make its debut later this month. The exclusive treat will be introduced to the public during a grand tasting event on March 23, near St. Peter’s Basilica, under the auspices of the Vatican and Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
The event, held in Piazza Pio XII, will not only showcase the new creation but also include a charity fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will go toward a good cause, helping to ensure that the tasting serves both a celebratory and philanthropic purpose. The “Alleluia” ice cream will be available for purchase across Europe starting March 24, coinciding with the European Day of Artisanal Ice Cream.
The organizers behind the initiative hope to use the ice cream as a vehicle to promote values of peace, hospitality, and sharing, particularly among pilgrims and ice cream enthusiasts. With its launch during the Jubilee, “Alleluia” aims to combine the spirit of celebration with the pleasure of indulgence, offering a unique blend of sacred and sweet. The event is sure to attract attention, as consumers may wonder if the Roman authorities will offer a special indulgence for those indulging in the new Jubilee-inspired ice cream.
