Belgium’s Lotus Bakeries is expanding its licensing agreement with Mondelēz International to include the ice cream category, with Froneri set to produce and distribute Lotus Biscoff-branded ice cream.
Since its global launch in 2019, Biscoff ice cream has been available in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Under the new agreement, Froneri will take over production, marketing, and sales of Biscoff ice cream in multiple European countries starting in 2026, with plans for further international expansion.
Strengthening Global Presence
Jan Boone, CEO of Lotus Bakeries, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “Partnering with Froneri will unlock new opportunities for Biscoff, allowing us to leverage their extensive expertise in product development, market insights, and industry-leading knowledge. This collaboration will strengthen our position in the ice cream sector, enabling Biscoff to grow into a global ice cream brand.”
Boone added that the expansion into ice cream would enhance brand awareness while allowing Lotus Bakeries to focus on its core products—Biscoff cookies and spreads—on a global scale.
Strategic Expansion Efforts
The latest deal builds on a strategic partnership announced in June 2024 between Lotus Bakeries and Mondelēz International, aimed at expanding the Biscoff cookie brand in India. The ice cream agreement operates as a sub-license under the broader partnership.
Lotus Bakeries has experienced robust financial growth, reporting a 16% increase in revenue to €1.23 billion for the 2024 financial year. EBITDA rose by 17% to €243 million, while net profit grew by €23 million to reach €152 million, accounting for 12.4% of total revenue.
Strong cash flow has enabled the company to reduce net financial debt to 0.5 times EBITDA while investing over €120 million in capacity expansion.
With this latest agreement, Lotus Bakeries continues to strengthen its position in the premium snack and dessert market, furthering the global reach of its iconic Biscoff brand.
