April 1 marked the official start of ice cream season, and several popular local shops around Erie celebrated by opening their doors to eager customers.
Among the first to welcome patrons were Creamland, both Whippy Dip locations, and Sara’s Restaurant. The region’s ice cream enthusiasts were seen lining up to enjoy the sweet treat as the weather warmed up.
Sara’s Restaurant, which is celebrating its 47th year in business, has become a staple in the community. Owner Sean Candela expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and reflected on the changes over the years. “I’ve been here a long, long time, watching things change around the peninsula. It’s great to see familiar faces and to now have employees bringing in their kids, some of whom worked here before,” Candela said.
While Sara’s is a beloved institution, Candela emphasized that he’s always looking to add more talent to his team. “We have a great staff, but we’re always accepting applications,” he added.
With the end of winter parking regulations and the start of no-parking days, Erie residents are ready to embrace the ice cream season, making it the perfect time to visit these local favorites.
