Tropicale Foods, a California-based company, has issued a recall for thousands of packs of mini ice cream bars due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects 5,224 units of the Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack, specifically those with a best-by date of 10/11/2025.
Testing revealed that the mango bars within the variety pack may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The recalled products were distributed in retail locations across 16 states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. They were also sold in Washington, D.C. and various locations in Europe.
While no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers are urged to discard any affected products and avoid consumption.
Salmonella infections can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required, and in rare instances, the infection can be fatal.
Tropicale Foods has halted distribution of the product and is investigating the source of the contamination. Customers with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the company directly.
