Seattle’s beloved Full Tilt Ice Cream is undergoing significant changes, with co-owner Ann Magyar revealing the closure of its White Center store and discontinuation of its wholesale operation.
The decision follows closely on the heels of a tragic event—the passing of Magyar’s husband and the business’s founder, Justin Kline, just five weeks prior.
Established in June 2008 in White Center, Full Tilt Ice Cream was conceived as more than just an ice cream parlor; it aimed to cultivate a vibrant space for families and artists alike. Over the years, the brand expanded to include locations in Ballard, University District, Capitol Hill, and Columbia City, each adorned with nostalgic pinball machines that added to the ambiance. Despite the closure of three locations in recent years, the White Center and Columbia City stores remained beacons of community connection.
In a heartfelt letter shared on Instagram, Magyar expressed, “Full Tilt was never just about the ice cream. But now, with Justin gone, it just isn’t the same without him. It’s time for Full Tilt as we know it to end.” She extended her gratitude to the community for its unwavering support throughout the years.
The closure of Full Tilt’s wholesale operation is slated for the end of April, while the White Center location will bid farewell to its patrons on May 26. Although the Columbia City shop will continue to operate, patrons are advised that gift cards, certificates, or birthday party vouchers from other locations will not be honored moving forward.
As Full Tilt Ice Cream navigates this transition, its legacy as a cherished gathering place and purveyor of sweet memories will endure, albeit in a different form.
