Ice cream aficionados, rejoice! Salt & Straw, the acclaimed ice cream emporium with a dedicated following hailing from Portland, is poised to make its highly-anticipated entrance into the New York City scene this summer.
What’s even sweeter? The news comes with a double scoop: Salt & Straw will unveil not one, but two locations in the Big Apple. The first outpost will grace 540 Hudson Street near Charles Street in the vibrant West Village, while the second will find its home at 360 Amsterdam Avenue near 77th Street on the lively Upper West Side.
Founded by the dynamic duo of award-winning chef Tyler Malek and his cousin Kim Malek, Salt & Straw’s journey began modestly as a food cart in Portland before blossoming into its inaugural brick-and-mortar establishment in 2011.
Since its inception, the brand has garnered a fervent following, expanding its footprint to several West Coast cities and even venturing into the sunny landscapes of Florida. Last summer’s successful pop-up activation in New York City served as a tantalizing teaser for what was to come.
After much anticipation, Salt & Straw is set to make its permanent mark on the East Coast, kicking off with a series of pop-ups across the city before its official grand opening. The excitement will commence with a pop-up event at Brooklyn Brewery this Thursday, April 25, featuring delectable offerings such as passionfruit yuzu mochi donut and whey curd ice creams from 5 to 7 p.m., as reported by Eater.
The festivities will continue on Friday, April 26, with another pop-up outside the future West Village location from 1 to 3 p.m., where all scoops will be priced at just $1, according to The Strong Buzz.
Renowned for its daring and inventive flavors—think pear and blue cheese, Arbequina olive oil—Salt & Straw is poised to add a delightful twist to New York City’s vibrant ice cream scene. With anticipation reaching a fever pitch, the city eagerly awaits the arrival of this West Coast gem. Brace yourselves for a scoop of bliss!
