After a remarkable 16-year run, Full Tilt Ice Cream bids farewell to its beloved White Center community as it closes its doors for the last time this Sunday, May 26. The closure marks the end of an era following the tragic passing of co-founder Justin Cline, who left an indelible mark on the local ice cream scene.
Ann Magyar, Cline’s fellow co-founder and wife, shared in a recent phone call the heart-wrenching decision behind the closure, citing the challenge of running the business without Cline’s pivotal presence. With the wholesale production arm also winding down, the decision to cease operations at the White Center location was made in the best interest of Magyar and her family’s future.
While Full Tilt’s Columbia City location, franchised by Lenore Sharp and Ken Anderson, remains operational, sourcing its ice cream from Snoqualmie Ice Cream, the White Center closure marks the end of an era for the iconic ice cream haven. Renowned for its vibrant ambiance, complete with arcade games and live music concerts, Full Tilt’s White Center outpost was a cherished community hub.
Since its inception in 2008, Full Tilt captivated patrons with its eclectic array of flavors, reflecting the diverse community it served. From Mexican Chocolate to Sub Pop, each flavor bore Cline’s creative touch and commitment to social causes, from reproductive rights to Black Lives Matter.
Magyar fondly recalls the shop’s vibrant history, including memorable events like the Mudhoney concert in 2013, showcasing Cline’s passion for music and community engagement. As patrons flock to bid farewell and reminisce over one last scoop, Full Tilt’s final day will serve as both a tribute to its legacy and a celebration of Cline’s enduring impact.
Reflecting on the profound role Full Tilt played in her family’s life, Magyar expressed gratitude for the memories shared within its walls and the enduring friendships forged. As Full Tilt’s journey comes to a close, its legacy as a beloved neighborhood institution lives on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of savoring its sweet delights.
