Crestview Local Schools continue to nurture fruitful business alliances, fostering engaging projects that provide students with hands-on learning opportunities. Among these partnerships is a standout initiative between the kindergarten class and Baker’s Golden Dairy in New Waterford, renowned for its flavored milk products and ice cream.
Guided by Kasey Baker of Baker’s Golden Dairy, students embarked on a project-based learning experience that tasked them with developing and naming a new ice cream flavor. The journey began with a farm tour, where students gained insights into the ice cream-making process and brainstormed ideas for their unique flavor. Baker provided guidelines and a list of potential ingredients for the students to consider.
“The project was a success,” remarked Baker. “The students followed each step, from understanding the process to brainstorming ideas. It was a pleasure working with the kids on this creative endeavor.”
Katie Biondi’s class clinched victory with their creation, “Rebel Road,” featuring a delightful blend of chocolate and vanilla ice cream infused with brownie and cookie dough pieces. Genesis Simko, a student in Biondi’s class, shared, “We voted on the ingredients and selected the ones with the most votes for our ice cream.”
On May 17, the kindergarten class savored the winning flavor, unanimously giving it a thumbs up. Kasey Baker expressed her hope that “Rebel Road” would soon be available for purchase at the store on Carter Rd. in New Waterford and for home delivery by early June.
This collaboration is just one of several successful project-based learning initiatives at Crestview this year. Partnerships with local businesses, such as the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, Columbiana Nutrition, Bubble Tech, and Phantom Fireworks, among others, have provided students with enriching experiences across various fields. From landscape design to product development, these partnerships continue to enhance the educational journey of Crestview students.
