Quincy’s renowned frozen custard legacy is making a triumphant return as the Deters family, custard connoisseurs since the late 1800s, prepares to open a new establishment on 12th Street next April.
Greg Deters, investor and custard aficionado, reveals plans to revive the family name in Quincy, partnering with operators Jenn Dusterhaus and Jess Duncan, known for their successful Farmhaus Coffee Co. venture in Ursa. The innovative collaboration aims to merge the creamy indulgence of ice cream with the aromatic allure of coffee, inspired by European dessert traditions.
Drawing from his travels across France, Italy, and Germany, Greg envisions a menu featuring Italian affogatos and German eiskaffee, alongside inventive creations where ice cream and coffee harmonize in delectable harmony.
Proudly upholding the Deters tradition of excellence, the new venture spares no expense in sourcing top-tier ingredients from around the globe. With a commitment to gourmet quality, ingredients are meticulously selected, reflecting the family’s dedication to superior craftsmanship.
The success of these new offerings has already been demonstrated at the St. Charles location, paving the way for expansion into Quincy and potentially into mobile food truck operations, mirroring successes seen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
With an emphasis on personalized service, Greg entrusts the Quincy operators, who also happen to be family, to deliver exceptional customer experiences. The forthcoming establishment, slated to employ approximately 20 individuals, promises a blend of tradition, innovation, and unparalleled service.
Anticipation builds as construction plans take shape for the $750,000 development at the corner of North 12th and Hampshire Street, with approval pending from the City Council. With a projected construction start in the fall, the Deters Frozen Custard venture marks an exciting chapter in Quincy’s culinary landscape, poised to delight locals and ice cream enthusiasts alike.
