After a brief uncertainty surrounding its opening, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, the renowned creamery famous for its handcrafted dairy and vegan ice cream, is set to inaugurate its newest shop in National Landing on Tuesday as originally scheduled, according to a spokesperson’s email to Patch on Monday.
Initial reports by Patch last Thursday revealed the imminent arrival of Van Leeuwen’s first scoop shop in Northern Virginia, slated for opening on Tuesday. However, on Friday, a spokesperson reached out to Patch to announce a postponement of the opening. Nonetheless, as of Monday afternoon, all plans are back on track.
To mark the occasion, Van Leeuwen National Landing will be offering $1 scoops and complimentary Van Leeuwen-branded totes to the first 100 guests in line from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“We’re eager to connect with the Arlington community and share our delicious ice cream crafted from quality ingredients,” stated Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and CEO of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. “Since our expansion to DC just over a year ago, we’ve received a warm reception in the area, and we’re thrilled to further our presence here.”
In 2023, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream established three locations in Washington, including Union Market, Georgetown, and Adams Morgan. The forthcoming National Landing shop, situated at 269 19th Court South, will mark the company’s debut in Virginia.
The new shop will offer a selection of 30 signature flavors, ranging from classic Vanilla Bean to innovative choices like Honeycomb, Pistachio, Marionberry Cheesecake, Praline Butter Cake, and Earl Grey Tea. In addition to scoops, customers can indulge in sundaes, house-made waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats, milkshakes, and pints to-go.
