Mumbai-based Walko Food Co Ltd. has halted outsourcing its manufacturing operations following an alarming discovery in one of its Yummo brand ice cream cones. A customer, Dr. Brendan Serrao of Malad West, reported finding what appeared to be a human finger in the ice cream purchased via a delivery partner.
In response to the incident, Walko Food Co Ltd. issued a cautious statement on Thursday, declaring, “We are treating this incident with utmost seriousness. We have ceased manufacturing at the third-party facility implicated, and have initiated recalls from both our warehouses and retail outlets.”
Acknowledging Dr. Serrao’s complaint, the company emphasized its commitment to product quality and safety. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement, including the official police complaint lodged by Dr. Serrao,” the spokesperson added.
The Maharashtra Food & Drugs Authority (FDA) is reportedly monitoring the situation, though officials declined detailed comment.
Dr. Serrao, who recognized the foreign object due to his medical background, promptly notified authorities and preserved the evidence for forensic examination.
The unsettling discovery has sparked a thorough investigation by local authorities and raised concerns over product safety protocols in food manufacturing.
