Ice cream products manufactured at Totally Cool Inc.’s facility in Owings Mills, Maryland, are being recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, as announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Several dessert items produced by Totally Cool Inc., including Taharka Brothers’ honey graham and key lime pie pints with a plant code starting with the number 24, as well as various Jeni’s brand ice cream sandwiches, are included in the recall. These products were distributed nationwide through retail outlets and direct delivery services.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can lead to severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
In response to the contamination concerns, production and distribution at the Owings Mills facility have been halted pending further investigation.
Consumers are advised to refrain from consuming the recalled products and to seek medical attention if they have recently consumed any of these items and experience symptoms of Listeria infection.
