Destenny’s Ice Cream, a beloved family-run business in Richmond, has recently marked a significant milestone—its 11th anniversary. Owners Janeth Loera and her daughter Destenny Lopez celebrated the occasion with a festive event at their shop located at 717 23rd Street, Richmond. The celebration featured a delightful array of nachos, cake slices, and, of course, their signature ice cream.
“We put so much love into each dessert or drink we make here,” said Loera, reflecting on the successful years of the family-owned business. The shop, which has been a staple in the community, was abuzz with joy as customers and family members gathered to honor the special day.
Destenny’s Ice Cream is well-known for serving Mitchell’s Ice Cream from San Francisco, along with a diverse selection of other sweet treats. The menu includes homemade cakes, lemonade mixed with sparkling water, and a variety of refreshing blended drinks. Among the standout items are the Ice Rebels and Creamy Rebels, which are crowd favorites.
Another popular treat is the Mangonada, a refreshing concoction featuring shaved mango syrup and chamoy—a tangy pickled fruit sauce. This vibrant dessert is served with a scoop of mango ice cream, fresh mango pieces, and a piece of Tamarind candy, offering a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavors.
Janeth Loera, originally from Honduras, moved to the United States with her family, first settling in Oakland before relocating to San Pablo in 2008. Her daughters, Destenny and Alexa, were born in the U.S. and have grown up with the family business. Alexa occasionally helps out at the shop, adding to the family’s close-knit atmosphere.
“We love our customers, and we want them to be happy,” Loera added. The celebration was a testament to the community’s support and the family’s dedication to providing exceptional desserts.
