SOUTH HAVEN — Sherman’s Dairy Bar, a cherished summer destination in South Haven for over six decades, will close its doors at the end of the 2024 season.
Located at 1601 Phoenix St., the ice cream shop has been a local favorite, offering a wide variety of flavors including strawberry, butter pecan, Mackinac Island fudge, “chocomania,” French silk, and cappuccino. Each batch of ice cream was crafted with care for 66 years.
Sherman’s Dairy Bar has a long history that predates its ice cream offerings. Originally a dairy and milk delivery service established in 1916, the business evolved in the 1950s when Port Sherman, the grandson of the original owner, shifted focus to ice cream production. This change led to the shop becoming a beloved fixture in South Haven.
In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook, the dairy bar expressed gratitude to its patrons: “We have loved being part of your summer traditions for 66 seasons, and we know many of you have fond memories of a scoop at Sherman’s.”
Sherman’s Dairy Bar will officially close on October 26.
