The recall, issued by Alcas USA Corp of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was posted on the FDA’s Enforcement Reports page, rather than the regular recall page. As of the recall notice, there has been no information regarding reported illnesses or injuries linked to the contamination.
The product was sold at the retail level in the United States, the Cayman Islands, and Canada. Specifically, the recalled item is Alcas Gelato Ice Cream sold in compostable tubs, labeled “Vaschetta Accoppiata Compostabile.” The gelato is available in four sizes:
- 350 grams/500 CC (16.90 fluid ounces)
- 500 grams/750 CC (25.36 fluid ounces)
- 750 grams/1000 CC (33.81 fluid ounces)
- 1000 grams/1500 CC (50.72 fluid ounces)

A total of 834 tubs are included in the recall.
Consumers who have purchased the product are advised not to consume it. Instead, they can dispose of the product in a secure trash receptacle or return it to the store for a full refund.
