The Nevis School District is set to hold an ice cream social open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, in the commons area, inviting community members to engage in discussions about the district’s facility needs.
According to a recent news release, the event aims to provide families with insights into the district’s plans for addressing its growing facility challenges and allows residents to voice their opinions.
“The district will share draft concepts developed to meet the school’s increasing facility requirements. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with board members, school administrators, and project consultants, who will be on hand to answer questions and collect feedback. School tours will also be available throughout the evening,” the release stated.
Designed as a drop-in event, community members are encouraged to visit at their convenience during the allotted time. Families are particularly welcome, with a bounce house planned for children’s enjoyment.
“This is a wonderful chance for our community to come together, enjoy some ice cream, and discuss the future of our school facilities,” said Superintendent Gregg Parks. “We are eager to hear from parents, guardians, staff, and everyone who cares about the future of our schools.”
In early 2024, the Nevis School Board began a long-term planning initiative aimed at addressing facility challenges and guiding improvements. The process thus far has included listening sessions, a community meeting, a staff survey, and an online community survey to gather feedback on the district’s facility needs.
The district has also partnered with K-12 facility experts at ICS to project enrollment growth and assess the current condition of its facilities.
