A new ice cream destination, Dohmo, is set to open its doors next weekend at 9538 Olive Blvd. This innovative shop will offer a unique made-to-order ice cream experience, allowing customers to customize their desserts with a variety of flavors and mix-ins, thanks to specialized machines that blend ingredients directly into the ice cream base.
Owner Jason Jan, who also operates Nami Ramen and has a history with FroYo shops in St. Louis, is excited about the hands-on approach. “Our ice cream will be made right in front of customers, and unlike traditional machines, it allows you to blend the flavors and toppings on the spot,” he explained.
Dohmo’s ice cream begins with a base of either vanilla or chocolate, with guests able to choose from an array of mix-ins including candies, chocolates, cereals, fruits, cheesecake bites, and cookie dough. Unique flavors such as ube, yuzu, and matcha will also be available. Jan described the ice cream’s texture as “very fine,” comparable to soft serve.
In addition to customizable creations, Dohmo will feature 12 specialty cups, each carefully curated by the team and given memorable names. For instance, “The Goat” combines vanilla ice cream with cheesecake bites, lemon cookie bites, and graham cracker crumbs, while “The Aloha” features vanilla ice cream paired with pineapple, roasted coconut flakes, and bananas.
Customers can enjoy their ice cream in cups, freshly made waffle cones, or as milkshakes. The menu also includes Japanese taiyaki-style waffles, which are fish-shaped and filled with sweet or savory fillings. Beverage offerings will include a selection of boba and fruit teas, along with sparkling drinks made from fruit and milk teas.
The shop’s interior, designed by local firm SPACE Architects + Designers, will feature a modern and minimal aesthetic with an open kitchen concept that allows patrons to watch the ice cream-making process. The 1,300-square-foot space will benefit from ample natural light due to its endcap unit location in a new shopping center, which includes a patio with seating for about 16 guests.
Inside, there will be seating for an additional 30 to 40 customers. To accommodate visitors, Jan has arranged for extra parking spaces at nearby Olivette Lanes, in addition to those available at the shopping plaza.
In line with the shop’s modern design, customers will find a large flat-screen monitor displaying the menu and product photos near the order counter, along with self-serve kiosks for placing orders.
