Ben & Jerry’s co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are kicking off a nationwide ice cream truck tour in collaboration with the progressive advocacy group MoveOn, just as their first Wisconsin shop opens. The tour, set to visit over 20 cities in key battleground states, will make multiple stops in Wisconsin next month, offering free ice cream, engaging with local activists, and encouraging voter registration.
The highlight of the tour is the launch of a Kamala Harris-inspired ice cream flavor, “Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee,” created by Cohen under his “Ben’s Best” label. Although not directly affiliated with the Ben & Jerry’s brand, the flavor has generated buzz as part of a broader effort to support the vice president and promote voter engagement.
Ice Cream with a Message
“Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee” was crafted in homage to Harris and her campaign, with a nod to one of her viral quotes about coconut trees. The coconut-flavored ice cream is swirled with caramel and topped with red, white, and blue star sprinkles. A limited edition of these pints will be available, with fans encouraged to enter a raffle for a chance to try it.
Beyond this special flavor, MoveOn’s “Scoop the Vote” tour will also feature a variety of other politically-themed ice creams, including “Unburdened by What Has Vanilla Bean,” “Inauguration Celebration Birthday Cake,” and “Fight For Our Rights Sorbet.” The tour’s goal is to energize and mobilize voters, especially those who might not have been planning to participate in the upcoming election.
Engaging Voters in Wisconsin
The “Scoop the Vote” tour kicks off on September 16 in Philadelphia and will make its way through Wisconsin in early October. Cohen and Greenfield will be in attendance at the first stop, adding a personal touch to the campaign.
In Wisconsin, the tour will make four key stops:
Milwaukee: Wednesday, Oct. 2
Green Bay: Thursday, Oct. 3
Appleton and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh: Friday, Oct. 4
Madison: Saturday, Oct. 5 (This stop will also feature a rally in support of the Harris-Walz campaign.)
Specific times and locations will be announced soon, but those interested can RSVP online to participate.
Building Momentum for the Election
Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn, emphasized that the tour is designed to reach those who may not yet be fully engaged in the upcoming election. “There’s a vast set of folks that aren’t tuned into this election, and even non-political activities, like getting ice cream, can help engage Americans,” Epting said.
By combining a beloved treat with civic engagement, the ice cream truck tour hopes to foster a sense of community involvement and inspire more people to vote in the crucial upcoming elections.
