HOUSTON – Cloud 10 Creamery, a popular ice cream shop in Houston’s Heights neighborhood, is stepping up to meet customer demand for more transparent and organic dessert options by introducing two completely organic flavors: vanilla bean and banana-cinnamon. The move positions the shop as the first locally-owned ice cream business in Houston to offer fully organic options.
Chef and co-owner Chris Leung shared that this initiative aims to fill a gap in the market for high-quality, organic ice cream. “There’s not much available when it comes to a brick-and-mortar establishment offering a fully organic dessert,” Leung told CultureMap. “We felt like this was something that was missing in the market.”
The organic ice cream is produced using the same method that has made Cloud 10 a local favorite, but sourcing the right ingredients has presented challenges. Leung explained that while the shop has already made the switch to organic vanilla and banana-cinnamon, finding organic chocolate with the right texture and flavor has proven difficult.
Another challenge lies in the cost of organic ingredients, which can be up to 200 percent more expensive than conventional ones. As a result, organic scoops at Cloud 10 will cost around $8 each, roughly $3 more than the shop’s traditional flavors. Despite the higher price point, Leung is optimistic about the reception, stating, “We’ll start with two flavors, and if there’s demand, we can expand from there.”
Cloud 10 Creamery’s commitment to quality and innovation continues to make waves in Houston’s vibrant culinary scene, offering both familiar favorites and new, health-conscious alternatives for ice cream lovers.
