Spilled Milk Ice Cream & Cereal Bar, a popular Utah chain known for blending soft-serve ice cream with breakfast cereals and candies, has shuttered all five of its locations, leaving loyal customers shocked and saddened.
The company announced the closures on Instagram on Saturday, revealing that its locations in Daybreak, St. George, Salt Lake City’s 9th & 9th neighborhood, Vineyard, and the Delta Center were now permanently closed.
“Thank you to all of you who have supported us these past five years,” the post read. “We started out in a trailer in Sugar House with no advertising. It was our friends and family that came and supported and shared our new business.”
The post did not specify the reasons behind the closure. Efforts to reach the business through its Instagram account and by phone were unsuccessful.
Spilled Milk was founded in 2019 by Marvin and Sara Philip, initially operating as a food truck. It quickly gained popularity for its creative offerings, especially the “Over the Rainbow” cone, which featured Fruity Pebbles and Cap’n Crunch cereals atop an orange Creamsicle cone, garnished with marshmallows and a sour candy strip.
Fans expressed their heartbreak in the Instagram comments, sharing their surprise and sadness over the news. Many reflected on the joy and community the shop had brought during its time in operation.
“Our goal was to create an experience for people to come in and stay a while and enjoy ice cream together with the people they love,” the Instagram post continued. “We’ve loved seeing this dream come together.”
Despite the abrupt closure, Spilled Milk’s legacy as a unique and beloved ice cream destination in Utah will be fondly remembered by its fans.
