BOSTON — The Museum of Ice Cream will open its doors in Boston’s Seaport District on December 14, marking the attraction’s first permanent location in the city. After two years of construction and design, the 12,300 square-foot, two-floor museum promises an immersive and playful experience centered around everyone’s favorite frozen treat.
The museum’s co-founder, Manish Vora, expressed his excitement about bringing the whimsical concept to his hometown. “It’s a dream come true to come to Boston,” said Vora, a native of Wayland. “Boston has a passion for both art and ice cream. I don’t know if you can combine those two in any better city.”
The Museum of Ice Cream first launched as a pop-up in New York City in 2016, and has since expanded with permanent locations in Miami, Austin, Chicago, and Singapore. The museum has attracted nearly 3 million visitors from more than 80 countries and has become a popular venue for unique experiences, including over 500 marriage proposals.
Vora, who grew up visiting Boston’s world-class museums, said the new Seaport location will be the most interactive and experimental of the museums. “Bostonians demand excellence,” he noted. “We needed to step up our game for this city.”
What to Expect
Visitors to the Museum of Ice Cream can expect a variety of immersive exhibits, many of which are inspired by Boston’s culture and history. Some of the museum’s standout features include:
Fun Way Park: A playful nod to Fenway Park, this ice cream carnival includes a surprise treat and tributes to iconic elements of the stadium, including the Green Monster.
Chipwich Room: A cookie-themed room that leads to an ice cream library, exclusive to the Boston location.
Hallway of Freezers: A mysterious corridor featuring 24 doors that open to secret passageways, interactive games, and other surprises.
Cream Liner: A 1960s-inspired airline experience that adds a retro twist to the museum’s playful atmosphere.
Double Helix Slide: A fast slide leading directly into the museum’s iconic sprinkle pool.
In keeping with its commitment to creating a sensory experience, the museum encourages visitors to engage with exhibits using all five senses. Vora emphasized that the museum was designed to be a place where guests can connect, with ice cream serving as the perfect medium for shared experiences. “We work with scientists to think about the whole sensory experience throughout the museum,” he said. “You will be using all of your senses.”
Sweet Treats and Local Flavors
The Boston Museum of Ice Cream will offer visitors a variety of sweet treats, including a lobster ice cream flavor unique to the city. Vora called the lobster creation “only in Boston.” The museum’s on-site cafe will feature local ice cream shops and offer an array of treats, including sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream-themed drinks, and even beer and wine. Additionally, Friendly’s will supply some nostalgic menu options.
The museum will also debut new flavors regularly, highlight seasonal selections, and offer dairy-free, gluten-free, and kosher options. A retail shop will sell exclusive museum merchandise, including sweatshirts, socks, and ice cream scoops.

Timed-entry tickets for the Museum of Ice Cream will go on sale beginning November 19. General admission starts at $33.99, and guests are welcome to explore the exhibits for as long as they like, though the typical visit lasts around 90 minutes.
Vora is confident that the new museum will elevate the Seaport District’s reputation as a family-friendly tourism hub. “I think it’s really going to put the Seaport into another stratosphere of family tourism,” he said.
The Museum of Ice Cream is set to open just in time for the holiday season, offering a fun and interactive destination for ice cream lovers of all ages.
