FAIRWAY, KS – Fairway Creamery, a beloved local ice cream shop known for its unique flavors, is expanding with a second location in Kansas City’s Westside. Stephanie and Ali Shirazi, along with their daughter Bella, have built a loyal following at their original shop at 5938 Mission Road. Their Persian Rose Pistachio ice cream recently earned “Flavor of the Year” for the Midwest region from the North American Ice Cream Association.
The new location, set to open between Blue Bird Bistro and Goat Hill Coffee & Soda at 809 W. 17th St., will be a return to the Shirazi family’s roots. Bella was raised in the Westside neighborhood, where her parents operated Shiraz, a well-known restaurant that served the area for 14 years before closing in 2008. The family has deep ties to the community, with many of their old customers and business neighbors still residing in the area.
“We’ve always felt that this neighborhood needed more dessert options,” Bella Shirazi said. “We’re excited to bring Fairway Creamery to the Westside and reconnect with old friends and customers.”
In preparation for the opening, the Shirazis held a pop-up event in the neighborhood, offering a taste of their ice cream to local residents. Bella noted the warm welcome from the community, with many expressing excitement about the shop’s return to the area. “Everyone kept saying, ‘Welcome back,'” Bella recalled. “It’s been really heartwarming, and we can’t wait to be here permanently.”
The new location will focus exclusively on ice cream, offering scoops, shakes, sundaes, and pints. While the original Fairway Creamery also serves coffee and doughnuts, the Westside store will offer a more streamlined menu with around eight rotating flavors, compared to the 16 available at the original location.
“We make everything in-house, handmade every day, so the Westside location will be a bit smaller, but the quality will be the same,” Bella said. Seasonal and rotating flavors will include favorites like chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, and coffee, along with special flavors that change almost daily.
Despite their growing success, the Shirazis are focused on maintaining the personal touch and quality that has made Fairway Creamery a local favorite. “We don’t want to expand too quickly,” Bella said. “We want to make sure every scoop is perfect and maintain that neighborhood feel. Fairway feels like home, and we want the Westside to feel the same way.”
The new Fairway Creamery location is expected to open in late February or early spring, offering the Westside community a sweet addition to the local dining scene.
