Weckerly’s Ice Cream Plans Third Location in Rittenhouse Square

Philadelphia’s beloved Weckerly’s Ice Cream is expanding its presence with plans to open a new location in Rittenhouse Square, further strengthening its foothold in the city.

With successful locations already in Fishtown and King of Prussia, owner Cristina Torres is eyeing the bustling Rittenhouse neighborhood as a “natural next step.” Torres, who has deep personal ties to the area, sees it as an ideal location to bridge the gap between her existing shops. Having lived in Center City and worked in Graduate Hospital, Torres describes Rittenhouse as a meaningful location to her.

“Center City is almost like putting your big girl pants on. It’s that next level, that next step,” Torres told the Philadelphia Business Journal. “I just want to bring more of Weckerly’s to more people in Philly.”

The new site at 1600 Spruce Street has already received approval signs, although details regarding the opening date are still in the works. The expansion marks an exciting chapter for the ice cream brand, known for its artisanal ice cream sandwiches.

Founded in 2012 by Jen and Andy Satinsky, Weckerly’s began in a West Philadelphia cafe before relocating to a repurposed textile factory in North Philadelphia. The company eventually found its first permanent location in Fishtown. Torres acquired the business after the Satinskys announced plans to close in late 2023, ensuring that Weckerly’s legacy would continue.

With the Rittenhouse Square location on the horizon, Weckerly’s fans can soon enjoy its signature ice cream treats in another prime neighborhood.
