PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafe, a popular North Shore chain, has earned a series of prestigious awards, solidifying its reputation as a standout in the ice cream industry.
At the North American Ice Cream Association’s annual ConeCon convention, the café was named an Ice Cream Grand Master, marking a significant achievement. Additionally, Holy Cow secured its third consecutive win for the Northeast region’s Flavor of the Year award. This year, the honor went to its Pistachio Baklava flavor, a unique blend of honey-infused pistachio butter, creamy ice cream with bits of pistachio toffee, and crispy phyllo dough.
The chain also received a blue ribbon for its new Ecuadorian Cocoa flavor and was recognized for its core offerings, including chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla.
Founder and creative director Mike Schifino shared insight into how the café continues to create award-winning flavors while maintaining a year-round presence. “Innovation and fresh ideas are the driving force behind Holy Cow,” Schifino said. “We have to keep things exciting to encourage customers to return for something new.”
Schifino also emphasized that weather doesn’t dictate ice cream sales in New England. “We had our highest sales day on the coldest day in Massachusetts history,” he noted, highlighting the region’s love for ice cream, regardless of the season.
Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafes in Peabody and Gloucester remain open year-round, while locations in Salem and Dennisport close for the winter months.
