Dairy Queen is offering fans a chance to bring back one of three beloved Blizzard flavors in 2025. As part of its “DQ Freezer” initiative, the brand is giving customers the opportunity to vote for their top choice from a selection of past favorites. Voting opens on December 9 and will run until December 19, with the winner set to return to menus next year.
The DQ Freezer: A Vault of Nostalgic Delights
Since its debut in 1985, the Blizzard has become a hallmark of Dairy Queen’s menu, with over 170 flavor combinations created over the years. While not all flavors remain on the menu at once, Dairy Queen keeps many of these fan favorites in what they call the “DQ Freezer,” a special vault that stores discontinued Blizzard flavors for future re-release.
“We’ve created this extraordinary freezer to house all of the DQ Blizzard Treat flavors of the past,” the company explains on its website. “It’s a bridge to nostalgic favorites, waiting to be enjoyed again.”
The Three Contenders
This year, three flavors are vying for a spot back on the menu, and fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite.
S’mores Blizzard
First introduced in 2013, the S’mores Blizzard quickly gained a loyal following. It combines creamy soft serve, graham cracker pieces, marshmallows, and mini chocolate bars filled with marshmallow, delivering the nostalgic taste of a campfire treat in every bite.
Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard
A chocolate lover’s dream, the Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard features a decadent blend of fudge sauce, brownie chunks, and crunchy pecans. Although it’s been off the menu for some time, resourceful fans on Reddit have found ways to recreate the flavor by combining existing Blizzard ingredients.
Cappuccino Heath Blizzard
A coffee-infused version of the classic Heath Blizzard, this flavor mixes vanilla soft serve, a coffee base, and toffee-flavored Heath crumbles, offering a rich and crunchy experience perfect for coffee and dessert enthusiasts alike.
How to Vote
To participate, fans must download the DQ app and sign up for the free rewards program. Voting is open now through December 19, with the winning flavor set to be announced on December 20.
Fan Sentiment: A Strong Preference for S’mores
While all three flavors have their advocates, early fan reactions suggest a significant preference for the S’mores Blizzard. On Dairy Queen’s Instagram page, numerous fans voiced their support, with one declaring, “S’MORESSSS WHY IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION!” Another said, “S’mores, please. We’ve been patient.”
Even Dairy Queen employees are throwing their weight behind S’mores. One Minnesota-based worker commented, “As someone who works at DQ, this should definitely be S’mores because we can make all the other Blizzards with the ingredients we already have.”
While the final votes are still being counted, it’s clear that S’mores is the flavor to beat.
The Return of the Winning Flavor
Though the precise date for the winning Blizzard’s return is yet to be revealed, Dairy Queen promises that the victorious flavor will be back in 2025. For now, fans are encouraged to make their voices heard by casting a vote before the December 19 deadline.
