MANHEIM, Pa. — Kreider Farms is once again offering one of its most popular ice cream flavors for the holiday season. The Lancaster County farm, known for its commitment to quality and freshness, has brought back its “Peppermint Stick” ice cream, along with a limited-edition “Maple Praline Pecan” flavor.
FOX43’s Kasey Elliott took an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how Kreider Farms creates its famous frozen treats. The process begins at the farm, which is home to up to 1,900 cows. Milk from these cows is harvested up to three times a day and transported to Kreider’s processing facility, where it undergoes pasteurization.
Once pasteurized, the milk is blended with flavorings and ingredients tailored to each ice cream variety. After the flavors are incorporated, staff adds various inclusions, such as candy pieces or swirls, before the ice cream is packed into containers and sent to be frozen for sale.
Craig Espenshade, site manager at Kreider Farms’ milk plant, emphasized the freshness of the farm’s ice cream. “Most of the milk that ends up in our bottles was in a cow just a couple of days ago,” Espenshade said. “It’ll be on your shelf less than a day later. It’s only a couple steps from cow to carton. Those cartons were filled by hand, which just really shows you the time and dedication that our ice cream department has to get that quality product out.”
Kreider Farms’ holiday ice cream flavors include the seasonal “Peppermint Stick,” which features creamy peppermint ice cream mixed with colorful holiday peppermint candies, and the new “Maple Praline Pecan,” a maple-flavored ice cream with praline pecans.
The family-owned business, which will mark its 90th anniversary in 2025, also sells a variety of other products, including eggs, milk, lemonade, tea, juices, and gardening mixes. Customers can find more information and browse the full range of Kreider Farms ice cream flavors on the company’s website.
