Grand Traverse County’s Moomers Ice Cream, renowned for its summer scoops, is embracing the holiday spirit with a popular tradition — their annual gingerbread house decorating contest. The event, which runs through Christmas Eve, has become a festive favorite among staff and customers alike.
Each year, the theme of the contest changes, but the rules remain consistent: all gingerbread houses must be edible and fit within a 10x10x10-inch box. Voting for the best creation is open to all, with prizes up for grabs — typically cash rewards — and the coveted title of “Gingerbread King or Queen.”
Jon Plummer, Co-Owner of Moomers Homemade Ice Cream, shared the fun behind the event: “We vote on the gingerbread houses up until Christmas Eve, and there are prizes, but more importantly, there are bragging rights. The winner gets to wear the crown for the rest of the year. It creates a fun, in-house competition that adds to the holiday atmosphere, and we just enjoy it.”
The gingerbread houses will be on display throughout the season, and voting continues until Christmas Eve.
Moomers Homemade Ice Cream will take a seasonal break in January and February, preparing for the busy summer months ahead.
