Wendy’s is sweetening the deal for dessert lovers, especially those frustrated by frequent McDonald’s ice cream machine breakdowns. In a new initiative launched Wednesday, the fast-food chain is offering a small Frosty for just $1, while also highlighting a partnership with McBroken, a website tracking the availability of McDonald’s ice cream machines across the U.S.
According to data from McBroken, certain cities are experiencing more frequent ice cream outages, including Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, New York, and Los Angeles. Wendy’s, capitalizing on the ongoing dessert disruptions, is encouraging customers to turn to its Frosty as a dependable alternative.
“Wendy’s understands that when you’re craving something sweet, you deserve a reliable option,” the brand said in a press release. “By analyzing McBroken.com’s data, we’ve seen that dessert fans are often disappointed by ice cream machine failures, and we’ve got just the fix: a Frosty.”
As part of the campaign, Wendy’s is offering customers a small Frosty—available in both Chocolate and the recently reintroduced Vanilla flavor—for just $1 through September 30. The promotion is part of Wendy’s effort to make sure those with a sweet tooth have access to a reliable treat, even when rival dessert machines are down.
The partnership with McBroken revealed that McDonald’s ice cream machines are most likely to be out of service between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. As a result, Wendy’s is urging customers to use the Wendy’s app to locate nearby restaurants offering Frosty specials and avoid the potential disappointment of machine downtime at other chains.
In addition to the Frosty deal, Wendy’s is also teasing the launch of a new Frosty flavor, with rumors circulating about a potential collaboration with Paramount. A leaked internal memo suggests the chain may introduce a limited-edition Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty, inspired by the popular SpongeBob SquarePants character, the Krabby Patty. Although the promotion is expected to roll out in October, the exact details remain under wraps for now.
For dessert enthusiasts, it seems Wendy’s is offering more than just a reliable treat—it’s positioning itself as a sweet escape from the frustrations of broken ice cream machines.
