Blizzards, the iconic frozen treats from Dairy Queen, are a popular indulgence for many. However, as some customers have noted, the price tag on these desserts can be a bit steep. In response, TikTokers have taken to social media to share their own recipes for making the beloved treat at home—often for a fraction of the cost.
Several TikTok creators, including Trin Faith Howard, Emily Lillian, Whatcha Got Cookin’, and Ashley Ramos, have posted videos showing how they replicate the Blizzard’s sweet, creamy texture with a few simple ingredients.
Howard’s version combines vanilla ice cream with Oreos and Reese’s Pieces. Lillian, meanwhile, uses a mix of Reese’s and Snickers ice cream, M&Ms, and milk. Whatcha Got Cookin’ incorporates vanilla ice cream with Butterfinger, Heath bars, and a peanut butter center, while Ramos opts for a combination of vanilla, M&Ms, Oreos, and Reese’s Pieces. Each of these videos has garnered impressive view counts, ranging from 348,000 to over 4 million views.
The key to creating a successful Blizzard dupe, according to these TikTokers, is achieving the right consistency. To replicate Dairy Queen’s signature texture, the creators use stand mixers, such as KitchenAid, to achieve a smooth and fluffy result.
Although the TikTokers did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Dot, their videos have sparked lively discussions in the comments section. Many users have shared tips on how to improve their homemade Blizzards, such as freezing the toppings before mixing or chilling the mixing bowl and paddle to prevent the ice cream from melting too quickly. Some even suggested using Dairy Queen’s own soft-serve quarts for a more authentic flavor.
While some commenters were simply excited to try the new recipe, others appreciated the cost-saving potential. “DQ [is] too expensive these days,” one person said, while another asked, “Why haven’t I thought of these damn good uses for my stand mixer?”
Another TikTok user, Moe Pooli (@moe.pooli), raised questions about Dairy Queen’s ingredients. He pointed out that the company never explicitly states that it uses actual ice cream in its Blizzards. “It’s been playing mind games with me for the last week,” he wrote in his video.
Dairy Queen has yet to respond to inquiries from The Daily Dot regarding the ingredients used in their Blizzards.
