Cheshire, CT — Micro Creamery of Connecticut, a family-run business known for serving over 80 ice cream flavors sourced from local creameries, has announced the soft opening of its third location in Cheshire. The new store, located at 828 South Main Street — the former site of Sweet Claude’s Ice Cream — opened its doors on January 3.
Co-owner Shahan Kukreja, alongside his father Dinesh, shared their excitement for expanding to Cheshire, a community they’ve called home for over 25 years. Despite the family’s long-standing ties to the area, Kukreja explained that finding the right location took time and effort. “Everything has to fall into place,” he said. “It takes a lot of searching, effort, and a little bit of luck.”
The new shop, which features both indoor and outdoor seating, is designed to be more than just an ice cream parlor. Kukreja emphasized that the space will serve as a local gathering spot where families can enjoy ice cream, meet friends, or even host events. The building’s ample space allows for parties and meetings, offering the community a versatile venue. “When I was growing up, I remember seeing kids hanging out and asking for people to honk as they passed by,” Kukreja recalled. “This place has that same nostalgic, community feel.”
Operating hours for the Cheshire location are Sunday through Thursday, from noon to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., with plans to extend hours in the warmer months.
Micro Creamery’s menu features a variety of ice cream flavors sourced from some of Connecticut’s finest creameries, including Arethusa Farm in Litchfield, Big Dipper in Prospect, Buck’s Ice Cream in Milford, Cold Fusion Gelato in Westport, Praline’s in Wallingford, and Salem Valley Farms in Salem. Known for offering both conventional and unique options, the creamery’s selection includes flavors like Key Lime Pie, Dulce de Leche, and Gulab Jamun, with several gluten-free and dairy-free choices available.
The Kukreja family, who brings over two decades of experience in the ice cream business, prides themselves on offering homemade, locally made ice cream, setting their business apart from others in the area. “We want to give people the opportunity to see what the best ice creams around Connecticut look like,” Kukreja said.
Yelp recently ranked Micro Creamery as one of the top ice cream spots in New Haven County, a recognition that reflects the growing popularity of their locations in Woodbridge and Milford. The family opened their first store in Woodbridge in 2022, followed by the Milford location in 2023.
Although the Cheshire store was initially slated for a fall 2023 opening, delays in construction pushed the timeline to January. Kukreja expressed satisfaction with the delay, noting that it allowed them more time to refine the layout and plan the space’s infrastructure.
In addition to their brick-and-mortar locations, Micro Creamery is expanding into catering. The family recently acquired a catering truck, which they plan to use at local fairs and festivals this coming season. “This is a big area for us to grow in,” Kukreja said. “We’re really excited to dive into the fairs and festivals this year.”
A grand opening celebration for the Cheshire location is expected in the spring or summer, once warmer weather arrives. The family is looking forward to formally introducing the new shop to the community with an event suitable for all ages, although the exact date is still to be determined.
