BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — As residents prepare for an impending snowstorm, ice cream might not be the first item on their shopping lists. However, Meltdown Ice Cream and Soda Fountain, a beloved local shop in downtown Bowling Green, is encouraging the community to think locally while stocking up for the harsh winter weather.
On Wednesday, the shop took to Facebook with a heartfelt plea, urging customers to support local and seasonal businesses. The post emphasized that while ice cream might seem like an unconventional choice for winter, every purchase makes a significant difference for small businesses during the slow winter months.
“I implore you to stop by our shop today and tomorrow for a scoop or two, or a pint or few,” the Meltdown team wrote. “To be transparent, and I’m sure I won’t shock you with this, but January is rough. I try my best to trudge through, but the slow season does cause a bit of anxiety.”
In addition to ice cream, Meltdown encouraged customers to visit its neighbor, Staircase Wine Shop, for wine and other essentials. The shop highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses, especially during challenging times.
“I’m asking that you remember our little shop,” the post continued. “Stop by, bring your family, get some scoops, take home pints. It makes a real difference to this small, locally-owned business.”
As Kentucky braces for Friday’s snowstorm, Meltdown’s message serves as a reminder of the impact community support can have on local entrepreneurs. Whether it’s a sweet treat or a bottle of wine, shopping locally can help small businesses weather the winter—both literally and figuratively.
