A popular dessert sold at major retailers, including Target and Wegmans, has been recalled after it was discovered to contain an undeclared allergen. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced this week that My Mochi’s peach mango sorbet is being pulled from shelves due to the presence of pasteurized cooked egg white, which was not listed on the product label.
The recall affects 1,350 cases of the sorbet, which is sold in 7.5-ounce boxes containing six pieces. The affected products are labeled with lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24. According to the FDA, two cases of a “minor allergic response” have already been reported.
Eggs are among the most common food allergens, particularly for children, and can trigger reactions ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms of an egg allergy may include rashes, hives, skin inflammation, congestion, sneezing, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and asthma-like symptoms. In severe cases, ingestion can lead to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition that restricts airways and may cause rapid pulse, abdominal pain, and shock.
My Mochi’s peach mango sorbet is widely distributed across the U.S., available in the freezer aisles of Wegmans and approximately 100 Target stores. A company spokesperson described the recall as “really small” but emphasized the importance of addressing the issue to ensure consumer safety.
Customers who have purchased the recalled product are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further information, consumers can contact My Mochi directly or visit the FDA’s website for updates on the recall.
This incident highlights the critical importance of accurate food labeling, particularly for products containing common allergens that could pose serious health risks to sensitive individuals.
